West Java Prosecutor's Office Assigns Nine Prosecutors to Taufik Hidayat Case

The West Java High Prosecutor's Office has formed a team of nine prosecutors to handle the alleged confinement and abuse of a woman identified as YTR by Taufik Hidayat in Bandung.

The team of prosecutors was formed after the High Prosecutor's Office received the Notification of Investigation Commencement Letter from the West Java Police on 15 June. The team will oversee the case from the investigation stage until handover to the court.

According to initial investigation results, Taufik Hidayat is suspected of confining and abusing the victim since 2024 at four different locations. The victim suffered serious injuries and remains in intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.

Prosecutors are preparing charges under Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code on severe abuse, Article 451 on hostage-taking with violence, and Article 446 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 126 paragraph (2) on deprivation of liberty resulting in serious injury. Investigators are also examining possible sexual violence.

Dr Yulina Eva Riany from IPB University explained that patterns of coercive control in relationships like this are often mistaken for attention, even though victims gradually lose their freedom.
