In 2025, he appeared in 45 games for the Chicago Cubs, hitting .226/.245/.444 with two doubles, nine home runs, and 24 RBIs. Over his career spanning parts of eight seasons, McGuire has a .248/.293/.374 slash line, including 56 doubles, 25 home runs, and 106 RBIs in 400 games. He has thrown out 27.1 percent of attempted base stealers. Previously with the White Sox in 2022, he posted .225/.261/.285 with nine doubles and 10 RBIs over 53 games. That year, Chicago acquired him from Toronto on April 3 and traded him to Boston on Aug. 1 for left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman. McGuire's teams have included Toronto from 2018-21, Chicago in 2022, Boston from 2022-24, and the Cubs in 2025. This signing brings the White Sox's 40-man roster to 40 players.
