Work begins on Vyttila Junction redevelopment project

The Kerala Road Safety Authority launched a ₹1.50-crore project on Sunday to redevelop Vyttila Junction in Kochi and ease traffic congestion.

The project targets the largest junction in Kerala, which remains congested despite a six-lane flyover opened in 2021. Earlier plans to adjust medians and the roundabout did not proceed.

Uma Thomas, the local MLA, said she had sought funds from the former transport minister after traffic worsened. The City Traffic Police prepared the plan, with support from MP Hibi Eden.

Work started with reductions to the medians under the flyover. The contractor has committed to finishing on schedule. Mayor V.K. Minimol, ACP Sherif S. and NHAI officials attended the launch.
