Xi Jinping meets Slovak president to discuss AI and robotics cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping met Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday morning and suggested exploring cooperation in clean energy, robotics and artificial intelligence.

The talks formed part of Pellegrini’s three-day visit to China, the first by the country’s head of state in 16 years.

Slovakia maintains relatively warm ties with China as one of the few EU and NATO members to have established a strategic partnership with Beijing. Ties were elevated to that level during Prime Minister Robert Fico’s visit to Beijing in November 2024.

Bratislava has kept relatively close relations with Beijing even as the EU has toughened its stance on trade.
