Yankees move prospect Carlos Lagrange to bullpen

The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that top pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange will transition to a relief role with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 23-year-old right-hander has shown triple-digit velocity this season.

Manager Aaron Boone said the team views Lagrange long term as a starter. He added that in the 2026 season there is a chance for the pitcher to impact the big league club out of the bullpen. Lagrange has averaged 98.9 mph on his fastball in Triple-A this year while topping out at 103.0 mph. He went 0-3 with a 4.41 ERA over 11 starts and 49 innings. Boone noted that a full transition could take several weeks of de-loading and building appearances every other day. The move comes as the Yankees bullpen has posted a 3.59 ERA but ranks near the bottom of the league in fastball velocity and swing-and-miss rate.
