Kimberly Yulieth Escobar Quiroga, 13, was found suspended in her home in Neiva's La Rioja neighborhood, capital of Huila, and died despite medical efforts. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, following an apparent argument with her mother over poor grades and the confiscation of her phone.
On Friday afternoon, in carrera 48 con calle 21 of La Rioja neighborhood, comuna Diez in Neiva, family members found Kimberly Yulieth Escobar Quiroga suspended from a rope tied to a beam in her home. The girl showed signs of asphyxiation, with pale skin and a neck groove.
They immediately alerted authorities and lowered her to rush her to medical care. Police personnel transported her urgently to ESE Carmen Emilia Ospina, Las Palmas headquarters, where she arrived on a stretcher, rigid and unconscious. Doctors confirmed her death minutes later.
The preliminary account indicates the minor had argued with her mother over poor academic performance, leading to the confiscation of her mobile phone as punishment. The case has caused deep dismay among neighbors and relatives.
The body was taken to Medicina Legal for autopsy, and Police criminalistics units are conducting investigations to clarify the events.
