Abraham Quintanilla Jr., who managed his daughter Selena's rise to fame with the family band Selena y Los Dinos, died on what would have been his birthday. No cause was disclosed. A.B. Quintanilla, 62, shared the news emotionally: 'It is with great sadness in my heart that I let you know my father died today... Life is so unfair.' He honored his father's role as founder of Los Dinos and a Tex-Mex music pioneer, dedicating his album 'La Vida de un Genio' to him.
Selena was murdered on March 31, 1995, by Yolanda Saldívar, her fan club president, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Saldívar received life imprisonment and was denied parole in March 2025. In a 2018 'Primer Impacto' interview, Abraham expressed that Saldívar was 'in a safer place' in solitary confinement at Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas, due to threats from other inmates who sent letters vowing to kill her. 'If they release her now... there are a lot of crazy people, they could kill her,' he said.
Abraham preserved Selena's legacy post-1995 through posthumous albums, films like the Jennifer Lopez-starring 'Selena,' 'Selena Remembered,' and 'Selena: La serie.'
