The Benishangul Gumuz regional council has approved a budget exceeding 25.4 billion birr for the 2019 fiscal year. This represents a 30 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The regional council completed its regular session after endorsing the budget. Ato Ziyad Abdullahi, head of the regional finance bureau, stated that the budget comes from regional revenue, federal subsidies, and other sources.
Of the total, 15.1 billion birr will be covered by revenue collected within the region. Planned collections show a 40 percent increase over the previous year.
The approved budget will fund regular operations and development activities. Efforts continue to cover regional expenditures from local revenue sources.
