Brother-in-law of Grecia Quiroz met Samuel 'N' at Carlos Manzo's funeral

Juan Manzo, brother of Carlos Manzo, revealed he met Samuel 'N', detained for leaking information to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), at his brother's funeral, where he noticed the suspect's strange behavior. Samuel 'N' was the director of Public Relations in Uruapan and allegedly provided key details on the ex-mayor's movements. This arrest marks progress in the investigation into Manzo's murder.

Juan Manzo, brother of Uruapan's late ex-mayor Carlos Manzo and brother-in-law of Grecia Quiroz, explained in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva that his only contact with Samuel 'N' occurred at his brother's funeral. There, Samuel 'N's attitude seemed out of the ordinary, different from other officials and friends.

“I met him at Carlos's funeral and he did seem like a person with strange behavior, different from all the officials and Carlos's friends. Finally, this ends with his detention,” said Manzo, who works for the Michoacán government.

Samuel 'N', until recently the director of Public Relations and Protocol in Uruapan, was arrested in Michoacán, according to Omar García Harfuch, secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, this Monday. His role as an informant for the CJNG, led in that cell by Jorge Armando 'N', alias 'El Licenciado', involved reporting every movement of Carlos Manzo in exchange for cocaine.

Suspicion about Samuel 'N' arose from the first arrests related to the case. “It was confirmed that information was leaked from a chat among municipal cabinet officials, where details about the event invitation and some specific topics of that day were shared,” Manzo detailed. This leak was investigated over the last two months, now providing relief to officials by clarifying how the murder was facilitated.

Manzo stressed that he did not know Samuel 'N' personally before the funeral and that his behavior had already caught his attention then.

Following their arrests last week, a Michoacán control judge has linked former Uruapan official Samuel ‘N’ and Josué Eulogio ‘N’ (‘El Viejito’) to trial for the November 2025 murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo, ordering preventive prison amid confessions and betrayal revelations from Manzo's widow, Grecia Quiroz.

Omar García Harfuch announced the arrests of Samuel 'N', Uruapan's Director of Public Relations, and Josué 'N' ('El Viejito') for leaking Mayor Carlos Manzo's movements ahead of his November 1, 2025, murder by CJNG-linked hitmen. Captured January 8-10, 2026, they join at least eight prior detainees in the case.

Officers from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection detained Yesenia ‘N’, personal secretary to Uruapan's mayor Grecia Quiroz, for her alleged link to the murder of former mayor Carlos Manzo on November 1, 2025. The arrest took place on January 8, 2026, in municipal offices. She was handed over to the Narcotics Investigation and Prosecution Unit of Michoacán's Attorney General's Office.

Michoacán's Congress approved Grecia Quiroz, widow of slain mayor Carlos Manzo, as Uruapan's new municipal president on November 5 with 38 votes in favor. Quiroz took the oath in an extraordinary session, vowing to continue her husband's fight against organized crime. The appointment comes amid investigations pointing to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as responsible for the homicide.

Following the assassination of Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo on November 1, 2025, his widow Grecia Quiroz assumed the mayoralty and posted an emotional message on social media vowing to continue his legacy. Quiroz met with President Claudia Sheinbaum to demand justice and attention for the municipality. The federal government announced a security plan for Michoacán in response to the killing.

The girlfriend of Gael Alexander 'N', known as 'El Muela', posted a TikTok with photos of the couple following the death of the alleged hitman in Colonia Morelos. The 19-year-old, linked to La UJ-40, was killed by rivals in a tenement in Venustiano Carranza borough. The video includes messages promoting crime and a reference to journalist Carlos Jiménez.

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, clarified that the heavy security deployment—including National Guard and state forces—at the March 2 funeral of CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, 'El Mencho,' in Zapopan, Jalisco, was to safeguard citizens after prior disturbances, not to escort the remains. Authorities also uncovered evidence of cartel payments to local police.
