D’Tigers defeat Tunisia 84-81 in World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria’s D’Tigers defeated Tunisia 84-81 on Thursday in a Group C match of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers held in Luanda, Angola. The win came in the first competitive game for new head coach David Fizdale.

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team started strongly by taking the first quarter 23-21. Tunisia responded to win the second quarter 23-20 and level the scores at halftime.

D’Tigers regained the lead in the third quarter with a 21-19 margin. They closed out the match by winning the fourth quarter 20-18.

The result improves Nigeria’s position in the qualifying race for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar. The team plays Guinea on Friday and Rwanda on Sunday.
