Egypt has completed the modernization of 33 railway workshops nationwide and finalized construction of eight new maintenance facilities out of 11 planned. The announcement came during a visit by Deputy Prime Minister Kamel Al-Wazir to the High Dam Railway Workshop in Aswan.
Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel Al-Wazir made the announcement while visiting the newly established High Dam Railway Workshop in Aswan on June 13. He was accompanied by Aswan Governor Amr Lashin and Egyptian National Railways Chairperson Mohamed Amer during an inspection tour of Aswan and Luxor governorates.
The workshop was built by the Holding Company for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport. It features nine railway tracks and handles about 34 trains daily, providing technical inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
Al-Wazir highlighted Egypt's seven-pillar railway modernization programme, which includes upgrading rolling stock, infrastructure, and maintenance facilities. The ministry has now finished 33 workshops and eight of the 11 new ones planned.
