An Egyptian medical convoy of 13 senior consultants has arrived in Port Sudan to deliver free surgical treatments and strengthen healthcare services amid damage to facilities. The mission runs from December 20 to 27 and includes specialists in various surgical fields. It operates under directives from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and sponsorship by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development announced the arrival of a specialized medical convoy in Port Sudan, Sudan, aimed at providing free medical examinations and surgical interventions at the Prince Osman Digna Referral Hospital and the Sea Ports Authority Hospital. The team consists of 13 senior consultants in neurosurgery, general surgery, spinal surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thyroid surgery, and vascular surgery.
The mission follows directives from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and sponsorship by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, with coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, and the Ministry of Health and Population. Egypt also delivered 200 filled oxygen cylinders to Sudan's Northern State to address urgent health needs.
The convoy was received by the Governor of Red Sea State, Major General Mustafa Mohammed Nour, at his office in the presence of Egypt's acting ambassador in Port Sudan, Consul Peter Adel, and the Director-General of the State Health Sector and Acting Minister, Dr Ahlam Abdel Rasoul. Nour expressed appreciation for the Egyptian support, highlighting the historical and brotherly ties between the two nations.
Abdel Rasoul stated that the convoy offers vital support to Sudan's health sector at a time when more than 70 percent of health institutions have been damaged due to current conditions, and that Red Sea State faces additional pressure as a safe haven. Dr Mohammed Kamal Mohammed, Director of the Prince Osman Digna Referral Hospital, affirmed that all medical and administrative staff are fully prepared to cooperate with the Egyptian mission to ensure the best health outcomes for citizens.
The agency explained that the initiative seeks to alleviate the burden on citizens, bridge gaps in specialized medical disciplines, and support localizing treatment within the state, reflecting Egypt's commitment to aiding African nations and fostering solidarity through its humanitarian and developmental roles.
