Ethiopia's House of Peoples' Representatives has approved an amended aviation security proclamation, which the National Intelligence and Security Service says will boost air transport growth. The law, updated after 21 years, aims to elevate security standards.
Ethiopia's House of Peoples' Representatives approved the draft amendment to the Aviation Security Proclamation No. 1412/18 during its 15th regular session of the 6th term.
The National Intelligence and Security Service stated that the amended law, revised after 21 years, clearly outlines the agency's national mandate in managing aviation security at a higher level. It aims to advance air transport growth by one step, the service added.
The service highlighted that the proclamation addresses industry challenges by incorporating 17 standards from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It includes provisions for executive organs in committees, quality and inspection works at world-class levels, and updates to enhance air navigation safety.
Overall, the law provides legal support to keep pace with the industry's rapid growth, according to the service.
