House collapse in Hipódromo-Condesa leaves one dead and one injured

A house collapsed in the Hipódromo-Condesa neighborhood of Cuauhtémoc borough early Saturday, resulting in the death of a man and injuries to a 63-year-old woman.

Authorities attributed the collapse to water leaks and structural deterioration of the old building. The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil, led by Myriam Urzúa Venegas, explained that the first-floor slab collapsed onto the ground floor due to humidity and the passage of time.

The woman was taken to Hospital General Balbuena, where her condition is reported as stable. The body of the man, aged between 25 and 30, was located around 10:20 a.m. with support from canine units of the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana, including the dog Togo.

The Fiscalía General de Justicia will carry out expert examinations to determine the exact causes. Reviews of neighboring properties found no damage, so no residents were evacuated. A 1,000-liter LP gas tank was removed without posing a risk.
