Ichung’wah accuses Gachagua of sponsoring 2025 Kikuyu attacks

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of sponsoring violence targeting his parents’ home and offices in Kikuyu in June 2025. He dismissed Gachagua’s Wednesday claim that he orchestrated chaos at opposition rallies. The feud between the two Mount Kenya politicians continues.

National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah spoke on the floor of the House on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He alleged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua organised groups that burned his NG-CDF office, county government offices, a law court, and other facilities in Kikuyu on June 26, 2025. “On June 26, 2025, he organised goons who came and burnt our offices, the county government offices in Kikuyu,” Ichung’wah stated.

He added that attackers tried to burn his home and harm his then 105-year-old father. The incident occurred amid youth protests against the 2025 Finance Bill, when the Kiambu Court was also burned.

Ichung’wah dismissed Gachagua’s claims from Wednesday’s funeral of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho, where Gachagua accused him of hiring goons for chaos at opposition rallies in Mount Kenya. He called it “reverse psychology” and condemned Gachagua’s attack on Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

The two were allies during Gachagua’s time as deputy president until his 2024 impeachment. Gachagua now accuses President William Ruto of using Ichung’wah to divide Mount Kenya.
