The Inkatha Freedom Party has introduced Mlungisi Mabaso as its mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg. Mabaso vowed to restore the city to its former glory and unveiled a 10-point rescue plan.
Mlungisi Mabaso currently serves as one of the youngest members of the Johannesburg mayoral committee, where he heads the human settlements portfolio. He listed housing, employment, clean governance and a community-centred approach among his top priorities.
In a statement, Mabaso said Johannesburg must once again become a city where people are proud to live. He added that the IFP will restore a culture of safety, discipline and excellence in local government, noting that clean streets and safe neighbourhoods matter.
The announcement marks the party's effort to present a fresh approach to local governance in the city ahead of upcoming elections.
