L'Inkatha Freedom Party a présenté Mlungisi Mabaso comme son candidat à la mairie de la ville de Johannesburg. Mabaso a juré de rendre à la ville sa gloire d'antan et a dévoilé un plan de sauvetage en 10 points.

Mlungisi Mabaso est actuellement l'un des plus jeunes membres du comité mayoral de Johannesburg, où il dirige le portefeuille des établissements humains. Il a cité le logement, l'emploi, une gouvernance propre et une approche centrée sur la communauté parmi ses priorités principales. Dans une déclaration, Mabaso a affirmé que Johannesburg doit redevenir une ville où les habitants sont fiers de vivre. Il a ajouté que l'IFP restaurera une culture de sécurité, de discipline et d'excellence au sein du gouvernement local, soulignant que des rues propres et des quartiers sûrs sont essentiels.
