Indonesia's contingent surpassed their 82-gold target at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, collecting 102 golds by Sunday morning and securing second place behind host Thailand. This achievement came amid suboptimal regulatory challenges, highlighting the resilience of the nation's para athletes.
Indonesia's contingent achieved a remarkable feat at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. By Sunday (January 25, 2026) at 07:00 WIB, the team had secured 102 gold medals, exceeding the initial target of 82 set by the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC). The total medal count reached 298, comprising 102 golds, 104 silvers, and 92 bronzes.
"The Indonesian contingent has far surpassed the target," said NPC Deputy Secretary General Rima Ferdianto. She added that the tally could still grow on the final day of competition, which also serves as athlete regeneration toward the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
On Saturday (January 24), Indonesia added 33 golds, boosting the total from 69 to 102. Para athletics led with 39 golds, followed by para swimming (22 golds), para weightlifting (8 golds), and para judo, which swept all 7 golds. The para archery team claimed overall victory with 5 golds out of 9 events, surpassing their target of 2.
Para athletics coach Setiyo Budi Hartanto acknowledged initial hurdles: "At first, I was a bit pessimistic because many key events were not contested and there were suboptimal classification mergers, but the athletes adapted, and the results are very proud."
Although Thailand leads with 143 golds, Indonesia remains close in second. The Chef de Mission noted regulatory violations disadvantaging Indonesia, yet athletes performed consistently. This success underscores dominance in key disciplines, with potential additions from finals like the mixed team compound open in archery.
