Johan heard Russian drone warning on P1

A man in Sörmland was surprised when a Russian warning about a drone attack suddenly interrupted the news broadcast on P1.

Johan Klinthammar, 52, from Katrineholm was in his car near Björkvik in Sörmland on Thursday when the Lunchekot broadcast on P1 was interrupted by a message in Russian.

The voice warned of an impending drone attack and urged listeners to stay home, avoid windows or go to a shelter. Klinthammar filmed the car radio displaying the text “Larmmeddelande”.

According to Jan Ossfeldt at Teracom the transmission was caused by tropospheric overpropagation, a natural phenomenon that allows Russian radio signals to bounce across the Baltic Sea. The effect is common during weather shifts.
