A coalition of civil society organisations has launched the Open Lagos Health Sector Spot-Check to assess 72 public health facilities across 18 local government areas in Lagos State. The week-long exercise is scheduled for August 3 to 7, 2026. It aims to strengthen healthcare delivery ahead of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals deadline.
The initiative is led by the Lagos State Civil Society Participation for Development, the Lagos State Accountability Mechanism, the Public Health Sustainable Advocacy Initiative and the Centre for Communication and Social Impact. It involves collaboration with Engender Health, the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
Coordinator of LACSOP, Barrister Ayo Adebusoye, said the coalition will conduct quick assessments of selected facilities across 18 local governments to generate evidence on service delivery. He noted the effort comes with less than four years to the 2030 SDG deadline and ahead of a new political administration expected in 2027.
Chairman of the Evidence Subcommittee of LASAM, Mr Basit Baruwa, described the exercise as a spot-check rather than a survey. It will be complemented by a review of one year’s health facility performance data. State Advocacy Coordinator of CCSI, Mr Abiodun Ajayi, said findings will be presented at an Open Lagos Health Sector Dialogue to agree on practical solutions with government officials and community leaders.
