The Brainerd Nordic Ski Club has postponed its annual Lumberjack Jaunt due to extreme cold temperatures. The event, originally set for January 24, will now take place on Sunday, February 1, at the Northland Arboretum. Times and location remain unchanged, with activities starting at 10 a.m.
The Lumberjack Jaunt, a popular Nordic skiing event organized by the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club, faced a last-minute change because of harsh winter weather. Scheduled initially for Saturday, January 24, the race was moved to Sunday, February 1, to ensure participant safety amid extreme cold.
Despite the rescheduling, the event's structure stays the same. Registration and bib pickup will kick off at 10 a.m. at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. At 11 a.m., a free fun race will welcome kids aged 4 to 12, providing an accessible entry point for young skiers.
The main competitions begin at noon, featuring skate and classic technique races over distances ranging from 6 to 16 kilometers. These cater to a variety of skill levels and preferences in Nordic skiing styles. After the races conclude, attendees can enjoy a free lunch, followed by an awards ceremony to recognize top performers.
To encourage broader participation, the club offers reduced registration fees for skiers 18 and under. Additional details and online registration are available through the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club's website at www.brainerdnordicskiclub.com.
This adjustment highlights the challenges of outdoor winter sports in Minnesota, where weather can dictate event planning. The club's decision prioritizes safety while preserving the community's enthusiasm for Nordic skiing.
