A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 54-year-old man stabbed to death in his home in Kramfors on May 6. Two other men were also sentenced for their involvement in the crime. The ruling was issued by Ångermanlands District Court.

The violent knife murder occurred on May 6 this year in a small locality outside Kramfors, in front of several witnesses. The 54-year-old victim was sought out in his home, chased onto the yard, and attacked with a knife. He received multiple stabs to the neck before the perpetrators fled the scene by car.

Shortly after the incident, three men were arrested on suspicion of involvement. The 43-year-old man, identified as the one who held the knife, has been in custody for five months. In interrogation, he admitted to aggravated assault and causing another's death but denied murder, claiming self-defense. However, the district court sided with the prosecutor and sentenced him to life imprisonment for murder.

“According to the district court's opinion, the act had the character of an execution and the act caused severe suffering for (NN) who must have felt strong fear of death for a relatively long time,” wrote Ångermanlands District Court in the judgment. The motive was reportedly jealousy, as the victim had previously been in a relationship with the 43-year-old's wife.

A 52-year-old man, charged with aiding murder, was instead convicted of grossly protecting a criminal. The court found it proven that he was at the scene and helped dispose of the clothes they wore during the murder, but not that he promoted the act. A 67-year-old man who drove the getaway car was also convicted of grossly protecting a criminal. The two latter men received prison sentences of one year and one and a half years, respectively. The 43-year-old man was also ordered to pay 130,000 kronor each to the victim's mother and two adult sons.
