All three players, who are No. 1 draft picks selected for Canada's 2026 Olympic roster, delivered standout performances that boosted their teams' standings. The honors, presented by GEICO, highlight their dominance in scoring and key statistical categories.
In a remarkable month for Canadian talent, the NHL recognized three elite centers for their contributions during December 2025. Connor McDavid earned first star honors after leading the league with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 15 games. This output marked the most points in a calendar month by any player since Mario Lemieux's 34 in December 1995. McDavid's efforts propelled the Edmonton Oilers to a 9-5-1 record, elevating them from sixth to first in the Pacific Division. He recorded points in 14 straight games to close the month, including a 13th career hat trick on December 4 against Seattle and a five-assist performance on December 23 versus Calgary. Among December leaders, McDavid topped power-play assists (12) and power-play points (16), while tying for first in assists (21) and power-play goals (4). Now tied with MacKinnon for the league scoring lead at 70 points through 41 games, the 28-year-old paces the NHL in assists (46), power-play assists (23) and power-play points (30).
Nathan MacKinnon, last month's first star, took second place with 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points in 14 games. His performance powered the league-leading Colorado Avalanche to a 12-1-1 record, creating a 10-point lead in the Presidents' Trophy race. MacKinnon notched points in 12 of 14 games, including an NHL-best 10 multi-point outings and his 400th career goal on December 31 against St. Louis. He led December in goals (14) and even-strength goals (13), plus shots on goal (72) and plus/minus (+21). Through 39 games, the 30-year-old has 34 goals, the most in the league, and ranks first in points per game (1.79) and even-strength points (54).
Rounding out the trio, 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini secured third star with 8 goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 14 games, fourth-most in the NHL for the month. His play helped the San Jose Sharks go 8-6-0, securing the first Western Conference wild card spot. Celebrini tallied points in 11 games, including a nine-game streak to end December with 19 points. He led December in even-strength assists (16) and even-strength points (24). In his second season, Celebrini ranks third league-wide with 62 points through 40 games, a mark exceeded by only Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby among teenagers in their first 40 NHL games. He contributes to 50.8 percent of the Sharks' goals this season.
