His performance powered the league-leading Colorado Avalanche to a 12-1-1 record, creating a 10-point lead in the Presidents' Trophy race. MacKinnon notched points in 12 of 14 games, including an NHL-best 10 multi-point outings and his 400th career goal on December 31 against St. Louis. He led December in goals (14) and even-strength goals (13), plus shots on goal (72) and plus/minus (+21). Through 39 games, the 30-year-old has 34 goals, the most in the league, and ranks first in points per game (1.79) and even-strength points (54).

Rounding out the trio, 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini secured third star with 8 goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 14 games, fourth-most in the NHL for the month.
