Museum of the Portuguese Language to offer free Sundays

São Paulo's Museum of the Portuguese Language will offer free entry on Sundays starting this month, sponsored by Instituto Motiva. This replaces previous free Saturdays while Tuesdays remain gratis. The shift aims to boost access on the main day off for visitors.

São Paulo's Museum of the Portuguese Language, in the Luz district downtown, announced free Sunday entry sponsored by Instituto Motiva. The policy takes effect this April, replacing prior free Saturdays backed by the same institute.

Sundays were previously free until 2024, funded by the São Paulo state government, which stopped its support. Tuesdays have been gratis since 2013. The switch targets higher footfall in Luz, where shops typically close Sundays.

"By moving free entry to Sunday, we broaden access on a day of greater availability for people and reach more diverse audiences. This choice amplifies the initiative's territorial impact, encourages cultural occupation of downtown, and reinforces culture as central to citizenship, urban coexistence, and social transformation," states Instituto Motiva.

The museum runs Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4:30pm, with stays until 6pm, closing Mondays. Tickets cost R$25 full and R$12.50 half-price; advance booking via Sympla is advised.
