Michael Waikenda, Nairobi County's Chief Transport Officer, stated that Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration will continue to strengthen infrastructure and ensure the safety of pedestrians using designated paths. The county has invested in maintaining the quality of road sections used by pedestrians, cyclists, and other transport modes.

Such projects have been implemented in areas like Westlands, Ngara, and the city center, contributing to a reduction in accidents and conflicts between motorists and pedestrians. “Nairobi has become a city for people, not just cars. Our goal is to ensure better organization and make transport much easier in the city,” said Waikenda while inspecting the improving infrastructure.

Pedestrian sections on Tom Mboya Street and near Archives have helped reduce traffic congestion. Moreover, better infrastructure has provided jobs and livelihoods for young photographers in various spots. Green Park and Desai areas have emerged as attractions for filmmakers and tourists due to their scenic views.

Police have been using Nairobi Dashboard technology to monitor and control congestion. “This has helped reduce road accidents and strengthen collaboration among traffic police,” Waikenda said. The county plans to partner with the private sector to enhance electric bus transport, aiming to change behaviors where vehicles were previously parked and driven without order in the city center.
