National nutrition agency reports Rp1 billion phishing loss to police

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has reported the loss of Rp1 billion in operational funds from the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) Pangauban account due to a phishing scam to national police headquarters. The incident occurred late October and halted SPPG operations temporarily. BGN's deputy head stressed vigilance against cybercrime.

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) reported the loss of operational funds worth Rp1 billion from the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) Pangauban account in Batujajar subdistrict, West Bandung regency, West Java, to the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri). The report was filed by BGN's Risk Management Director, as stated by Deputy Head Sony Sonjaya in Jakarta on Friday.

Last week, Yayasan Prama Guna Nasional (PGN) reported the missing funds for the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG). The incident took place on Friday, October 31, at 6:30 p.m. WIB, while SPPG Pangauban Head Mochamad Cakra Aji Saputra was processing a transaction approval via the BNI Direct system. Suddenly, the system prompted a password change. Cakra then contacted BNI's official live chat service.

Soon after, he was contacted by someone claiming to be from the bank, who provided a link to change the password for security reasons. Believing it legitimate, Cakra followed the instructions, including sharing the confidential challenge and response banking details. The next day, the contact became unreachable. A balance check revealed only Rp12 million left from the original Rp1 billion.

Due to this electronic transaction fraud, or phishing, the SPPG Pangauban unit, operational for just 10 days, had to pause activities. It produces 3,500 MBG meal portions daily for eight schools in Batujajar. "The Risk Management Director of BGN has already filed a report to Mabes Polri," Sonjaya said. The deputy head urged all SPPG heads to beware of cybercrime tactics and exercise caution in transactions. Additionally, Mochamad Cakra Aji Saputra has been temporarily deactivated for further investigation.
