President of DF aquatic federation resigns after unpaid hotel bill

Victor Gonçalves, president of the Distrito Federal Aquatic Sports Federation (FDA-DF), resigned on October 27, 2024, citing health reasons, after the entity was sued by a São Paulo hotel for a R$21,000 debt. The unpaid amount covers lodging and meals for 31 people at the Troféu Chico Piscina event in October. Parents of athletes reported payment irregularities and filed a police report.

Victor Gonçalves's resignation came amid a lawsuit filed by Hotel Fazenda dos Buracões in São Paulo against the FDA-DF. The hotel seeks R$21,415 initially, adjusted to R$23,895.05 with inflation and interest, from a total commitment of R$39,415. The amount covers services for 31 people from October 13 to 18, 2024, during the Troféu Chico Piscina in Mococa, inland São Paulo.

Chats attached to the lawsuit show persistent contacts from the hotel to Gonçalves until January 9, 2025. The president promised to resolve it twice, saying “vai resolver”, but stopped responding to messages and calls. The action was filed in June 2024 and is proceeding in the 1st Court of the São Paulo District, which summoned the federation to present a defense.

Parents of athletes from Iate Clube and Sesc-DF reported paying for travel packages – including transport, lodging, meals, uniforms, and technical support – directly into Gonçalves's personal account. “Os pagamentos que todos os responsáveis dos atletas fizeram, foi na conta pessoal do presidente, e ele não honrou com o pagamento do hotel da parte pós hospedagem, que seria os 50% faltante da reserva, mais a alimentação”, some parents stated. Due to the prior default, the hotel refused a new booking for the DF delegation.

In response, the parents prepared a 14-page complaint letter requesting investigations into the federation's accounts and alleging defaults with the Distrito Federal Government (GDF). A police report was filed on October 27, 2024. The FDA-DF has other debts: a TJDFT ruling to pay R$32,860 to a man for reimbursing payments used for the entity's benefit, and an active debt of R$6,000 to the Union, including R$3,084.16 in social security contributions. The federation has not commented as of now.
