The Brasil da Esperança Federation, made up of PT, PV and PCdoB, filed a complaint with the Superior Electoral Court against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and other lawmakers over statements on electronic voting machines.
The complaint was filed on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after Flávio Bolsonaro stated at a diplomats' event in Brasília on Tuesday that Brazilian voting machines originated from the Venezuelan company Smartmatic.
The request includes a fine of 30,000 reais per publication for Flávio, deputies Julia Zanatta and Gustavo Gayer, and former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro. It also seeks content removal and measures by platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and X to block dissemination of associations between Smartmatic and Brazilian machines.
The federation describes the statements as an articulated disinformation movement. Flávio denied questioning the Brazilian electoral system in a campaign note.
