Rasmus Andersson close to new contract with Vegas Golden Knights

Swedish defenceman Rasmus Andersson is nearing a new contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, according to reports. The 29-year-old could become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 but is expected to remain with the club.

Andersson was traded from the Calgary Flames to Vegas during the winter. He has previously expressed a desire to stay with the Golden Knights, where he has reunited with former teammate Noah Hanifin.

No new deal has been signed yet. His previous six-year contract with Calgary, signed in January 2020 and worth 265 million kronor, included a salary of 44.1 million kronor in the final season. The new agreement is anticipated to be larger.

Negotiations have been delayed following the death of Andersson's agent, Claude Lemieux, in May. A source told Expressen that such trades often lead to resolved contracts.

Andersson recorded 47 points, including 17 goals and 30 assists, in 81 games during the most recent NHL season.
