Red heatwave alert ends Wednesday as storms arrive

Météo France forecasts the end of red heatwave vigilance at 6am Wednesday in the last affected departments. Scattered but locally strong storms will cross the country from west to east. Temperatures will gradually drop north of the Loire.

Twenty-six departments remain under red vigilance until 6am on 15 July in the Centre, part of the South-West and all of Île-de-France. These areas then return to orange vigilance for the rest of the day.

A cold drop over the Atlantic triggers two stormy phases. The first occurs at the end of the night from northern Aquitaine to Poitou-Charentes and moves up toward Brittany. The second, more marked, begins at midday from Brittany to Burgundy and southern Alsace with local accumulations of 30 to 40 mm.

Maximum temperatures still reach 36 to 38°C around the Massif Central from the Midi Toulousain to the Rhône Valley. Less hot air advances from the west and north. The drop will be sharper on Thursday with highs above 35°C only from Occitanie to Corsica.
