A second-grade student was injured after being attacked with a white weapon by an eighth-grade student at Colegio Islas de Chile in La Granja. The incident occurred on Monday around 10:30 a.m. and the victim was taken to Hospital Padre Hurtado, where she is stable.
The attack left the seven-year-old girl with several stab wounds. According to prosecutor Juan Cheuquiante of the Fiscalía Metropolitana Sur, the aggression took place inside the educational establishment with a white weapon. The PDI is investigating the case through the Brigada de Homicidios Sur.
Colegio de Profesores president Mario Aguilar described the incident as “terrible” and linked it to a mental health crisis in schools. “How did we reach a point where a teenage girl stabs a younger girl inside the same school?”, he questioned.
Aguilar criticized the recent Escuelas Protegidas law for its punitive focus and called on authorities, including President Kast and the Education Minister, to address the issue comprehensively. “They have not listened to us”, he stated. The victim’s mother reported that her daughter received nine stabs and demanded justice.
