President Claudia Sheinbaum presented a positive review of her 2025 government, highlighting progress in security, welfare, and economy. A survey shows she ended the year with 69 percent citizen approval. Social programs remain her strongest asset, despite criticism on security and corruption.
At the close of 2025, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexico is doing well and will improve in 2026. In a nearly five-minute video, she highlighted the 37 percent reduction in intentional homicides from September 2024 to December 2025, equating to 32 fewer cases per day. 'The security and justice strategy allowed us to decrease intentional homicides by 37 percent,' she said.
On welfare, programs were maintained for 32 million families. Twenty-five hospitals and 14 health centers from IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS-Bienestar were inaugurated, with 32 under construction. Additionally, 435 operating rooms, 52 hemodynamics rooms, and 1,031 new dialysis machines were implemented.
In education, the National Baccalaureate was created, integrating upper secondary systems, and 89 high schools were built or expanded for 50,000 students. On housing, unfair Fovissste and Infonavit credits were reduced or eliminated for five million beneficiaries, and construction began on 390,000 homes out of 1.2 million planned for families earning less than two minimum wages.
Other advances include 20 efficient irrigation systems for 200,000 hectares, 20 water supply and sanitation projects, and recovery of 2.8 billion cubic meters of unused concessions. After rains affecting 100,000 families, all received support within a month. Platform workers gained social security, and a gradual reduction to a 40-hour workweek by 2030 was agreed. Mexico has 2.7 percent unemployment, second lowest globally per INEGI; tourism rose 13 percent, annual inflation was 3.72 percent in December, and formal employment hit a record 22.8 million jobs in November.
A national El Financiero survey, conducted December 10-17 among 800 adults with a +/-3.5 percent margin of error, showed 69 percent approval for Sheinbaum, with 31 percent disapproval. The economy split opinions (50 percent positive, 48 negative), security had 40 percent positive and 57 negative, and corruption 16 positive and 76 negative. Social supports received 65 percent positive. On attributes, 58 percent see her as honest, 57 with leadership, and 52 capable of results. In December, she participated in the FIFA 2026 World Cup draw, where 52 percent rated her performance as good.
