Snow causes bus chaos in Stockholm

Storm Anna has caused widespread disruptions in Stockholm's bus traffic, with stalled buses and a collision. Passengers report chaos at Älvsjö station while SL claims the situation is generally good. Two bus drivers were taken to hospital after an accident in Danderyd.

On the afternoon of November 18, problems arose in Stockholm's public transport due to snowfall from Storm Anna. At Älvsjö station, a key hub for southern Stockholm, several buses stalled in snow slush just before 17:30. A passenger described the situation as chaos with stops in bus traffic in both directions, and the lanes were unplowed.

SL press spokesperson Aleksander Krajisnik could not confirm the issues at Älvsjö but noted it was rush hour. He emphasized that SL had no information about any bus chaos.

At 17:54, police were alerted to Mörbygårdsvägen in Danderyd where two SL buses collided. One bus could not brake on a downhill slope and hit another. Both drivers were taken to hospital for checks, while two passengers were unharmed. Police, represented by Mats Eriksson, are investigating the incident as suspected causing bodily harm and traffic offense. The exit at Danderyds sjukhus on E18 was closed during towing operations.

Another incident occurred around 18:00 when bus 401 to Älta got stuck after hitting a railing at Londonviadukten. Passenger Adam Ytterberg said the bus slid backward despite accelerating and everyone was evacuated. Police directed traffic until 18:30 and criticized insufficient plowing, leading to cars driving on the sidewalk.

Storm Anna caused similar issues over the weekend, with ten buses stuck in Tullinge on Saturday and more on Sunday. Krajisnik later stated that the traffic situation generally looks good thanks to improved snow removal by the municipality and Trafikverket.
