High school students in Rueil-Malmaison took their French Bac oral exam on Friday in an underground parking lot because of the heatwave.
The Versailles academy confirmed that the arrangement was decided by Lycée Eiffel to avoid postponing the exams. The rectorate stated that the premises had been cleaned and security verified before desks and chairs were installed.
Education Minister Édouard Geffray acknowledged that conditions were not optimal. “These are not optimal conditions,” he said on BFMTV, while noting that 700,000 orals had been held on schedule thanks to such measures.
Regional councillor Julie Garnier shared a photo of the space on X, describing the situation as “survival mode.” The Île-de-France region announced earlier in the week the release of one million euros to equip high schools with fans and misting devices.
