Thieves steal 1.526 billion pesos from BBVA bank in Caloto

Criminals stole about 1.526 billion pesos from a bank branch in Caloto, Cauca, after drilling through a wall from an adjacent property.

The theft was discovered on June 22, 2026, after community leaders alerted authorities to irregularities in a building next to the BBVA bank in central Caloto. Officers found signs of forced entry and a hole roughly one and a half meters in diameter in an adjacent wall.

A bank representative confirmed that the amount taken was about 1.526 billion pesos. Alterations to monitoring and security systems were also detected, suggesting prior planning.

Units from the National Police and SIJIN are investigating, including reviewing security footage and technical analysis. No arrests have been reported so far.
