Some 25,000 people, according to the National Police, or 70,000 according to organizers, protested on Sunday in Palma against tourist saturation in Mallorca. The march ended with police charges that left at least eight injured.
The march, called by the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida and backed by dozens of groups, crossed central Palma with slogans such as “Mallorca al límit” and “Mallorca no está en venta”. Participants denounced gentrification, high housing prices and pressure on public services after the record of 18.9 million visitors in 2025.
The protest remained peaceful until the end, when the National Police blocked access to Ses Voltes square and carried out charges with rubber bullets and batons in Parc de la Mar. Sources from 061 confirmed eight injured, two of them taken to hospital with a guarded prognosis.
Platform spokesperson Dani Comas said the island will collapse on August 12 and announced a new demonstration on August 8 in Sóller. Deputy Vicenç Vidal called for the resignation of the government delegate in the Balearics, describing the police action as disproportionate.
