Uppsala Municipality plans new bathing spots at Ekeby Kvarn

Uppsala Municipality has submitted an application to build a pier bath at Ekeby Kvarn and is seeking a shoreline protection exemption for a new site at Vårdsätraviken.

The municipality wants to improve access to the water at Ekeby Kvarn between Storvreta and Fullerö. High reeds currently cover the shoreline along Fyrisån making it difficult to reach the water.

An application has been submitted to the county administrative board to build a pier bath. Recreation strategist P-O Borgestig describes the site as a hidden gem.

At Vårdsätraviken previous locations have been rejected due to high natural values. A new site has been identified and the goal is for the new Vårdsätra bath to be ready by summer 2027. Samples are also being taken in Fyrisån at Fyrishov to explore additional possible bathing sites.
