On Monday around 170 final-year students from transport high schools in Dalarna and Gävleborg gathered at the slippery road track in Falun to practice how heavy vehicles behave on slippery surfaces.
The event was arranged by Dalarnas Trafiksäkerhetsförbund because there is no mandatory risk training for heavy vehicle driver’s licenses. The students listened to the police heavy vehicle group and a towing company that displayed a crashed truck.
A highlight was driving trucks on the slippery track and testing different speeds and braking maneuvers. Johan Moberg, site manager at NTF Dalarna, said the day provided an important complement to the training that is otherwise missing.
Student Rasmus Johansson described the experience: “When you sit behind the wheel and feel how the vehicle loses grip you realize how quickly things can go wrong. It really stuck with me.”
