Alexandria Port cargo throughput reaches record 82 million tonnes

Alexandria Port recorded its highest-ever cargo throughput of more than 82 million tonnes in fiscal year 2025/26, a 10% rise from the prior year.

Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir said the port handled more than 82 million tonnes of cargo, marking the strongest annual performance in its history. Dry bulk cargo grew the fastest at 19.3% to reach 36.5 million tonnes.

Container traffic rose 13% to 2.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units. The port authority received 7026 vessels, with cruise ship calls surging nearly 54%.

Al-Wazir attributed the gains to infrastructure investments, modernisation of marine services and advanced digital systems for vessel management. The results support Egypt’s strategy under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to become a global transport and logistics hub in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
