Amaia Montero returns with La Oreja de Van Gogh in Bilbao

Amaia Montero returned to the stage with La Oreja de Van Gogh at the Bizkaia Arena in Barakaldo before 15,000 people, after nearly two decades away from the group.

The singer shared her personal experience during the May 10 concert. “There were moments when I thought I would never step on a stage again. I was completely lost,” she told the audience. She described a period of darkness in which she feared for her life and career, yet stressed that she fought back and returned with scars.

The show opened with “20 de enero” and continued with hits such as “Deseo de cosas imposibles” and “Rosas”. Amaia also performed some songs from the period after her departure, although she limited herself to two tracks from Leire Martínez’s era. At times she showed insecurity, such as while singing “La niña que llora en tus fiestas”, but the crowd encouraged her.

The tour includes a second date in Bilbao and will visit other Spanish cities. The band also announced Pablo Benegas’s departure. Montero thanked the support received and expressed her wish to keep singing with the group.
