The Spanish rock band El Último de la Fila performed together for the first time since 1996, opening their reunion tour at Marenostrum Fuengirola in Spain on April 25. The two-and-a-half-hour show featured hits spanning their career and ended with a rock-infused cover of 'El Rey.'
El Último de la Fila took the stage at the open-air Marenostrum Fuengirola venue, near the Mediterranean and Sohail Castle, at 10 p.m. on Saturday. The concert began with 1980s video game-inspired visuals and opened with 'Huesos,' a track from their earlier band Los Burros. García, scarf in hand, and Portet on guitar, performed backed by a large ensemble including two drummers, evoking their 1985 formation in Barcelona after stints with Los Rápidos and Los Burros. Their sound mixed rock, pop, and flamenco influences, creating enduring songs popular in Spain and Latin America. Their last joint show was on March 22, 1996, in Barcelona, followed by a 1998 split announcement citing musical fatigue. Portet told Billboard Español the reunion stemmed from a casual post-meal chat that made plans fall into place naturally. Tickets sold out in four hours when released in 2025, and fans of all ages sang 'Insurrección,' 'Aviones Plateados,' and 'Como un Burro Amarrado en la Puerta del Baile,' with many in tears. The tour now covers 12 Spanish cities through July, including Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, and Valencia, after added dates due to demand. Before the encore 'El Rey'—a mariachi classic by José Alfredo Jiménez in rock style—García thanked the crowd: 'Thank you all for being here… it’s a pleasure to reconnect. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.' He added, 'Forgive the immodesty, but these songs are eternal.' García said the band is focusing solely on these shows, with no further plans.
