Andy Garcia's passion project Diamond received a lengthy standing ovation at its world premiere during the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday evening. The film, which Garcia wrote, directed and stars in, blends contemporary Los Angeles settings with classic film noir style. Co-stars Vicky Krieps and Rosemarie DeWitt attended the screening.
The out-of-competition premiere took place in the Grand Salle Lumière, where the audience applauded for several minutes after the screening. Garcia addressed the crowd, describing the event as the culmination of a 20-year journey that began while helping his daughter with a homework assignment inspired by Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye. He thanked the ensemble cast, including Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray and Brendan Fraser, for their contributions despite many being absent from Cannes.
