Andy Serkis says snobbery toward game acting is fading

Actor Andy Serkis has described a shift in Hollywood attitudes toward video game roles. In a new interview, he noted that performers once avoided games but now actively seek them out. Serkis drew from his own experience in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Serkis, known for roles in The Lord of the Rings films, voiced Renoir in the 2025 RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. He told Variety that his first game acting job came in Heavenly Sword for the PlayStation 3, where many actors viewed the medium with disdain. Young performers leaving drama schools now express strong interest in game work, he added.
