Bernadette Chirac, wife of former president Jacques Chirac, died on Friday 5 June at the age of 93. Her daughter Claude Chirac announced the news to AFP on Saturday morning. France Télévisions altered its schedule to pay tribute to her.
The public broadcaster changed several programmes from Saturday evening. On France 5, a special edition of « C à vous » hosted by Mohamed Bouhafsi discussed her life with guests. On Sunday 7 June, France 2 will air the documentary « Un jour un destin » at 11:35 pm. Monday at 9:05 pm on France 5, the 90-minute film « Mémoires d’une femme libre » will be followed by the magazine « C ce soir ». France Télévisions stated in a press release that it honoured « her commitment to the most vulnerable » and her presidency of the « Pièces Jaunes » campaign. In Sarran in Corrèze, where she was elected for half a century, residents expressed emotion. Corinne Langlade wrote in the condolence book: « The class, the discretion, the intelligence ».
