Bullish investor sentiment falls to lowest level this year

A weekly survey by the American Association of Individual Investors showed bullish sentiment among respondents dropping sharply to 30.4 percent. The figure marks the lowest level recorded so far in 2026.

The survey results were released this week. Bullish sentiment declined 5.9 percentage points from the prior week, a drop larger than about 80 percent of all weekly changes recorded since the survey began in 1987.

Bearish sentiment rose 10.7 percentage points over the same period. That increase exceeded roughly 93 percent of all weekly changes since 1987 and 96 percent of changes recorded in 2026 to date.

The 30.4 percent bullish reading ties with the March 19 release as the lowest level of bullishness this year.

The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index dropped to 47.6 in April, its lowest level on record, after falling 5.7 points from the previous month.
