California deputy charged in fatal wedding crash

A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter after allegedly killing a groom-to-be during a high-speed response to a call that had already been resolved.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Glynn Wilburn, 42, faces one count of gross vehicular manslaughter along with felony reckless driving causing serious bodily injury. The charges stem from a September 2025 crash in which Wilburn ran a red light at about 100 mph on Cherry Valley Boulevard and struck a car driven by Gavin Hinkley, 21, and his fiancée, Madeline Fox, 20.

Hinkley died at the scene. Fox suffered catastrophic injuries. Prosecutors said Wilburn had been told by dispatch that the shots-fired call he was responding to involved no injuries and that other deputies were already on scene.

Attorney Spencer Lucas, who represents the victims’ families, said the crash was preventable. The couple’s parents, Melissa and Jason Fox, stated that no badge should place anyone above accountability. Wilburn suffered minor injuries; no arraignment date has been set.
