Canada to join Eurovision Song Contest in 2027

The Eurovision Song Contest will include a Canadian entrant for the first time in 2027. The European Broadcasting Union approved the participation of CBC/Radio-Canada last week.

The announcement came on July 1, one day before Canada Day. It marks the first addition of a non-European country since Australia joined in 2015.

Noel Curran, the EBU director general, said Canada’s voice would make the community stronger. The CBC/Radio-Canada will announce its selection process at a later date.

The 2027 contest will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, after Dara won the 2026 edition. Canada will compete in the semifinals.

Canadians have previously represented other nations in the contest, including Celine Dion for Switzerland in 1988.
