Centre allocates Rs 95,692 crore interim funds for VB-GRAMG rural scheme

The Centre announced an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore for states under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) for 2026-27. Uttar Pradesh received the highest share at Rs 9,721.48 crore, followed by West Bengal at Rs 8,508 crore.

Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement on June 9, 2026. The allocation aims to ensure a seamless transition from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme without any gap in work availability. Chouhan said, “Without causing any inconvenience to workers, we are moving from MGNREGA to VB-GRAMG. There will not be a gap of even a single day in the availability of work.” He added that not a single worker should remain without work even for a day. The new scheme, effective from July 1, 2026, follows a 60:40 Centre-state fund sharing ratio. Twenty-six states have completed procedural requirements for implementation, while Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telangana, and Mizoram are finalising formalities. The allocation is based on states’ prior expenditure under MGNREGS. Pending dues for West Bengal under the previous scheme remain unresolved.
