Chile sends rescue teams and aid to Venezuela after earthquakes

The Chilean government finalized the dispatch of humanitarian aid to Venezuela following the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes that struck the Caribbean nation on Wednesday.

A plane carrying 37 brigadistas specialized in collapse rescue departed from Grupo 10 of the Chilean Air Force. Subsecretary of the Interior Máximo Pavez leads the team.

President José Antonio Kast spoke by phone with Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodríguez to coordinate the assistance. Authorities announced that a second flight carrying 10 additional professionals and essential goods will depart on Sunday.

Biminister Claudio Alvarado noted that the brigadistas have experience in Haiti, Ecuador and Chile. Chancellor Francisco Pérez Mackenna stressed that the focus remains on those affected by the tragedy.
